The feedback from the questionnaire was mainly positive although there was a few things people would of changed. Poeple found it confusing to understand the genre romantic comedy.
1. How did the film fit the genre?
Most people didnt understand that the genre was film so the feedback of this was negative. This would be a thing we would change in the future to make the opening more understand and show romantic comedy at a bettere standard.
2. Does the film appeal to the chosen target audience?
This was very positive as most people said it was something they would watch and be interested in. The characters were a big part of this as we used teenagers to connect to the audience.
3. What do you think would improve our film?
People found the film rather confusing and said that a big improvement would be making the film more understandable showing a clear difference between the past and the present.
4. Do you understand the concept of the plot? Is it believable?
most peole found the plot confusing but did understand the change from past to present, but this was only due to the fact of the title saying 'six years later..' They said that although the plot was confusing it was believeable.
5. Do you think the titles work well with filming?
Everyone thought the titles worked excellent with the filming and made it look more professional. It also helped the plot be more understandable.
6. What did you think to the quality of editing throughout the duration of the film?
People liked how we used our editing. They thought the fade ins and outs helped made film run smoothly and efficently. Also the names of actors coming in when the film was playing made it look proffesional. The slow mo was a huge hit although the audio should have been cut out. Overall editing had the most positive feedback.
7. Does the film connect to the audience if so how?
The characters was the main connection between the audience as we used to teenagers actors. People thought this worked well as it was something they could relate to or may have well experienced.
8. What particular bits did you enjoy of the film?
The slow mo was a huge success and people thought this made the film enjoyable and comedic. Also the music at the end set the tone for the film and made it energizing and interesting.

Evaluation - unfinished
The task in hand was to choose a genre and produce the beginning two minutes of a film including titles, production logo and appropriate music, dialogue and editing. My chosen genre was Romance. My reason for choosing this genre was because i believed i could succeed more as i could relate to romance and it interested me.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
We decided to start our piece with the two main characters meeting. This usually happens in romance films as it creates irony for future events. We wanted to make it easy to establish who the main characters were right at the beginning of the film. We used camera angles and shots to show the diversity of the two characters. By using more of high angled shot on Sean (jack) it showed how he was the more dominant of the two. In the film we see Roxie as a younger girl being bullied by the other main character Sean. As they step outside he cruelly trips her over in front of a group of girls, who all laugh hysterically. Once again Roxie is shown on the floor and the other students are stood up looking down at her. This also shows that she is lower than them, not as popular or powerful. This is a form of bullying and many people experience bullying in their lives or in fact are bully’s themselves. We thought the audience would be able to relate to this.
We did a lot of research on our film genre and this enabled to use different media conventions. We did a lot of editing after our filming to make sure our film looked realistic and professional. Using techniques such as fade in and fade out on the titles made the film run smoothly and gave us the effect we wanted. We also added sub titles such as the one that said 'six years later' this was so the film was clear to audience as we went from past to present. Non diegetic music also helped the understanding from past to present. Non diegetic music was also used so that we could create a feel good lively vibe as the character Roxie was just waking for work. We thought this music would reflect our chosen genre. We also used a slow motion part when Roxie fell. This was to exagerate the emotion and impact of the fall so the audience would feel sympathy for her. This was very effective although we could of done with editing the audio out on this part of the film. When introducing the actors name we again used fade in and fade out. The texts came above when the characters were shown on screen this is used alot in other movies so i thought it gave our film great success.
My chosen audience for this film was teenagers and young adults. I felt i could use my knowledge more as i'm a teenager myself, to give the audience what they wanted. I acheived this by using appropiate conventions in my film. By using young actors i was able to create a connection from the characters to the audience. I wanted the characters to appeal to the audience more otherwise the plot wouldn't have been as effective.
After looking back at my preliminary task i feel i have excelled more. My editing has increasingly improved as i now understand how to achieve the effects i want and how to do it. I also believe the shots are more thought out this time and give the film more meaning and continuity. Also in the preliminary task i was involved in the acting where as this time i wasnt. This helped me give more authority in what i wanted the actors to do and helped me focus on what i wanted to be seen on the screen. I was very happy with my filming of the main character waking from her sleep as i did the zoom out perfectly and the shots cut exactly where needed be.
Our plot line is similar to that off thirteen going on thirty and thats why i think many people would find it enjoyable.
Next time i would think more carefully i would think more about the plot line as we had alot of slip ups that we had change. This prevented us from being able to concentrate on fully on the filming as we was short on time. Lacking actors we had to change the plot from a party scence at the beggining to the sixth form centre. Although this did work out just as effective.

romance research
While most films have some aspect of romance between characters (at least as a subplot) a romance film can be loosely defined as any film in which the central plot (the premise of the story) revolves around the romantic involvement of the story's protagonists. Common themes include the characters making decisions based on a newly-found romantic attraction. The questions, "What am I living for?" or "Why am I with my current partner?" often arise.
The appeal of these films is in the dramatic reality of the emotions expressed by the characters. The following is a list of recent romantic films. The most successful romantic film is the 1997 blockbuster.
Romance Films, love stories, or affairs of the heart center on passion, emotion, and the romantic, affectionate involvement of the main characters (usually a leading man and lady), and the journey that their love takes through courtship or marriage. Romance films make the love story or the search for love the main plot focus. Oftentimes, lovers in screen romances (often romantic dramas) face obstacles and the hazards of hardship, finances, physical illness, racial or social class status, occupation, psychological restraints, or family that threaten to break their union and attainment of love. As in all romantic relationships, tensions of day-to-day life, temptations (of infidelity), and differences in compatibility enter into the plots of romantic films. Romantic films often explore the essential themes of love at first sight, young (and older) love, unrequited love, obsessive love, sentimental love, spiritual love, forbidden love, sexual and passionate love, sacrificial love, explosive and destructive love, and tragic love. Romantic films serve as great escapes and fantasies for viewers, especially if the two people finally overcome their difficulties, declare their love, and experience life "happily ever after" - implied by a reunion and final kiss.

set design and costume
There was no dramatic set designs or costumes involved as we wanted the film to be presented realistic and show normal characters. The first setting was inside the sixth form centre. We shot the scene when we had a free period and other students would be in lessons, this was so we could allow less distractions from pupils but so the scene was realistic enough. We used the entrance of the 6th from centre as we could then follow the scene outside. The second part of filming was at my house and we used my mums bedroom as it was tidy and resembles that of a adults. We did this because the 2nd part is six years later than the first. Our costumes were just everyday clothes although sean (jack) was dressed more smarter as he was a popular kid and roxie (paige) was dressed down as she was the geekk/ nobody. For the future Roxie we simply used shorts and a pajama top to show her waking in the morning.
script
Throughout the film there was barely and speech and therefore i see it reasonable not to do a script. The only kind of dialogue involved in the film is when the girls shout abuse to Roxie and laugh hysterically. At the beggining there is small talk between Sean and Roxie where he asks to take her outside.

changes to our planning
We both decided instead of dressing the same character up, to look older in our film opening. We would use a different girl with the same shaped face and hair colour to show a strong change in character and to exaggerate on how much the character has changed since she was young. To make this work we tried not to show the younger characters face on screen alot. This also worked well as she hid her face as showed that her personality was shy and timid.

change of idea
We once again decided to change our initial idea because of timing limits and lack of people to play the parts. As our first idea was a party scene we couldn’t get enough people to make the scene realistic. At this point we decided to change our beginning and set it at 6th form. We’re using a lot of the same shots and angles from the party scene.
As the girl enters the 6th form block the camera is shown from her point of view. She looks around nervously lacking confidence. A group of girls either side are shouting abuse and looking her up and down laughing hysterically. Across the room we see a group of good looking lads whispering. One of the lads walks over striding confidently and arrogantly. Approaching the girl she tenses and looks around in amazement as he begins to talk to her. Flirting slyly, everyone else in the room stares. He reaches in to kiss and she closes her eyes waiting for the moment to happen. To her disappointment he is actually playing a cruel trick and trips her over in front of everyone. The whole room bursts out laughing.

film treatment
Film treatment. The camera pans through a long shot of house party.Diegetic music is being played very loudly and we see bottles and cans all over the place. The house is full of drunken teenagers dancing and all over each other. The camera is acting as the eyes of a girl walking through the party. She is classed as a geek. Out of place and awkward she tries to move through the gang of girls and lads all who are laughing at her. The camera moves from left to right looking up and down at the groups to show how nervous and out of place she is. From a long shot we see a group of good looking lads they are all taking shots and laughing hysterically. When they see the geeky girl they stop and obviously talking about her whisper in each others ears. We don’t hear what the guys are saying. They are acting very suspicious and cocky. The best looking of the group approaches the girl and starts to chat her up. It’s obvious he’s just doing this to play the crowd but as she is besotted with him she’s doesn’t realise. The guy then reaches towards her for a kiss closing her eyes she waits for the moment she’s wished for a very long time, only to be hit with a pie in the face. We then see the whole room burst out into laughter and the embarrassment and sadness is clear in her expression. The camera then cuts to a shot of the girl waking up for work. She is much older (5 years). The camera zooms out slowly so we can see a view of her waking up. She stretches and gets out of the bed. The camera then does random shots of her getting ready for work. For example her picking out clothes, brushing teeth, brushing her hair and applying her lipstick. We see her getting into her car and making her way to work. She is already five minutes late and finds herself in a traffic jam. Today is a very important day as they are being introduced to the new boss. Her co worker Marie rings her to see what’s holding her up and she starts to stress. After finally arriving at Crush headquarters she runs through the doors only to trip over in front of everyone. A man offers her a hand up as their eyes meet she realises it’s the one and only cocky arrogant Sean the jerk that ruined her teenage life. As she smoothes herself down her sees the whole floor fighting a smirk off their faces. It’s an all too familiar experience of her teenage years. It seems Sean doesn’t recognise her and he gains his place carrying on the meeting. Afterwards Roxanne goes to the toilet to compose herself. Looking at herself in the mirror she beings to talk to herself about the situation in hand. Marie comes in the toilets after her but Roxanne shakes it off and pretends everything is alright. They both walk out of the toilets only to find Sean standing above them. He asks for a quiet word with Roxanne and takes her to one side. Looking her up and down and laughing to himself begins to speak. The conversation refers to their teenage years. He apologises for being immature and asks if they can have a mutual relationship for the benefits of work. She puts her heart into work doing everything she can to impress him. One night everyone from the office heads into town for a well deserved night out. First Roxie is anxious but once the champagne starts flowing she relaxes and starts to party. Half way through the night her and Marie nip to the toilets. Here Roxie confesses her deep love for the boss! Further on in the night she starts talking to a group of lads as she glances over towards the exit she sees Marie and Sean hand in hand. Hurt she leaves the club and goes home crying herself to sleep. Feeling extremely hung-over the next morning she struggles to get herself ready for work. Rustling through her wardrobe she can’t find anything to wear. She wants something sexy to impress Sean. Getting more and more stressed she finally finds the perfect outfit at the back of her wardrobe. A high waisted skirt and see through shirt. Confidently strolling into work she approaches Sean. As she does so one of her male colleagues looks her up and down commenting on how gorgeous she looks. Sean sees this as inappropriate and says she better be dressed right tomorrow. Secretly he’s jealous and it shows. Later on in the afternoon a meeting is held. All workers find out their going on a weekend away to a quiet hotel to celebrate ten years in the making. Roxie automatically sees this as a chance to get closer to Sean. After work she rushes home and decides it’s the perfect time for a new wardrobe and makeover. Grabbing her purse she heads for town. Shopping first all new designer wardrobe consisting of tight fitting suits, short skirts, blouses and dresses. After the shopping she heads for the salon. Changing her blonde hair to a rich dark brown. Next morning she wakes up earlier than usual and takes her time to get ready. She drives up to the hotel where everyone is meeting for the weekend away. She unloads her luggage and walks into the main entrance. All her colleagues are shocked at her new look. She can’t but smile. Sean notices her straight away with a massive grin on his face he approaches her and gives her many compliments. At night everyone is sat around a table having a 3 course meal. Sean and Roxie sit across from each other and find they actually have a lot in common. Everyone’s starting to feel a bit tipsy and heads to the main ball room for the party. Roxie and Marie are dancing together when Sean asks Roxie for a dance. Marie jealous storms off and Roxie cant believe her luck. They slow dance and afterwards head to the bar. Getting a drink together Sean whispers in Roxie’s ear ‘your coming up to my room tonight’. Embarrassed she giggles and doesn’t know whether he’s being serious. Here exclaims he’s not joking and asks her to meet him at the reception bang on midnight. And hands her his hotel room card. She takes the card and thinks about his proposal, 100 questions filled her head, Would it complicate work? Does he like her or does he just want her for one night only? She weighs up the odds and decides to sneak off to her own hotel room at the end of the night leaving Sean waiting. The next day all the work colleagues meet up for a day of “team building” Coincidently Sean and roxie are on the same team, they smile at each other and get on with the tasks set, later on in the day a competition is held, a boat race, teams were told to get into couples and race against each other, roxie and Sean naturally got together and sat in the boat, Sean asks roxie why she didn’t turn up at midnight, and roxie makes up a story how she got really tired and had to head off to bed. The race began and roxie and Sean where ahead and winning the race, they both rowed quickly, there hearts beating and adrenaline rushing, they got to the other side of the lake and won first place. They looked at each other, roxie felt the same rush of excitement she did when she was the young geek who got turned down, she realised they had both grown up so much since back then, Sean leant in for a kiss and roxies lips touched his for the first time. Later on in her hotel room, she smiled to herself remembering the moment. She couldn’t help but fall for Sean, she just hoped that he had changed his ways and actually wanted her. Roxie makes a rush decision, feeling so happy from earlier she needed to see Sean. She walked to his hotel room, and takes out the card he gave her the night before, She walks in, her mouth open she could not believe what she was seeing, Marie and Sean in front of her stood up kissing. She quickly ran out and slammed his door shut and ran back to her room furiously in tears. She couldn’t believe what had happened, After all those years of growing up Sean was just the typical 16 year old boy he had always been, and as for Marie, she could never be a true friend. Furious she packed all her clothes into her suitcase, and stormed out of the hotel, as roxie was getting into her car Sean ran outside to stop her. She started her car and accelerated off, wheel spinning, leaving Sean in a haze of dust. She looked through her mirror at him that was the last time she saw seans face again.
Friday, 23 January 2009
Me and Kelly changed our original idea after realising that we could think of better more interesting piece of work that would be easier for us to get into. We changed from horror to romantic comedy.
Narrative
The film starts moving through a house party full of teenagers booze and mess. The camera is acting as the eyes of a girl. She’s out of place at the party and classed as ‘one of the geeks’. In the corner a bunch of guys are laughing at her all very drunk. One of the guys approaches her to start chatting her up. It’s obvious he’s doing it to play the crowd he reaches in for a kiss. She closes her eyes waiting for the moment she’s wished for a long time only to be hit with a pie in the face. The whole room explodes with laughter.
We then cut to a view of the girl waking up in the future. At this point we see the titles come in and the camera cuts very sharply through different images of her getting ready. Non diegetic is being played.
Rest of the film…
The girl arrives to work to be introduced to a new boss. It turns out this boss is her old crush from school, the one that ruined her teenage life. Even though he is arrogant cocky and hurtful she still finds she’s in love with him. Although the guy doesn’t like to admit it he’s always been besotted with her. The more they work together the more their feelings grow. A business trip away finally gets them together.

We changed our initial genre from horror to Romance as we felt we could suceed more if we did romance as we felt we could realate to it more and show that on the filming.
Narrative genre : horror
View of the ring being shown and camera zooms out to show the ring on the telly and in fact not in real life. Two girls are seen watching the tele and eating junk food. The camera then moves outside in the bushes. The camera appears as a man watching the girls from the house. The camera then moved up towards the house as the man approaches the girls dressed in a mask. The girls scream and at this point the titles and non narrative music come in.
